91±¬ÁÏÍø baseball falls to Belhaven in battle of ranked teams

JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/16/2011 - The No. 16 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University baseball team lost 14-5 to No. 12 Belhaven (Miss.) University. 91±¬ÁÏÍø dropped to 18-4 on the season, while Belhaven improved to 20-6 overall.

91±¬ÁÏÍø was out-hit 19-8 in the game, but compounded the lack of offense with five errors on defense.

91±¬ÁÏÍø scored first with a run in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly from Clint Barnes. However, Belhaven answered with five runs in the next half inning. The Blazers got five hits in the frame, along with the help of two 91±¬ÁÏÍø errors. Derek Tortorich provide a 2-RBI double to start the scoring. Belhaven added three more runs in in the fifth, two in the sixth and four in the eighth to seal the win. 91±¬ÁÏÍø added two runs in the six and two more in the eight, but could not keep pace.

91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Cole McAdams with three hits, while Bryan Hill and Oscar Depablos added two hits each. Doug Joyce paced the Bulldogs with two RBI. Belhaven was led by Paul Moreno with a 4-for-6 afternoon, while Anthony Doss added three hits. Ten different Blazers recorded at least one hit in the game. Ryan Sanders led with three RBI.

Derek Roof took the loss for 91±¬ÁÏÍø, allowing five runs in 3.2 innings with one strikeout and two walks. Kiel Higginbotham got the win with two innings of relief.

Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a home series this weekend on Friday and Saturday against TranSouth foe Lyon (Ark.). The teams play at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, followed by a double-header at noon on Saturday at 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Fesmire Field.
