HENDERSON, Tenn. - 4/12/2011 - and of 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University have been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for the week ending April 10, 2011.
This marks the second pitcher of the week honor for Kirk and fourth for 91±¬ÁÏÍø on the season. For Hayes, this is her first player of the honor this season and second overall for 91±¬ÁÏÍø.
Hayes, a 5-foot-9 shortstop from Brighton, Tenn., hit safely in all eight of 91±¬ÁÏÍø's game on the week, going 16-for-28 (.571) while also hitting two home runs and driving in 13. In a 15-0 win over Stephens College, she went 3-for-4 with a home run and six RBIs. She had six multi-hit games, including three against Stephens and three against Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University.
Kirk, a 5-foot-5 sophomore from Bolivar, Tenn., went 3-0 on the week while allowing only one earned run on her way to a 0.37 ERA with two shutouts. She recorded double digits in strikeouts in each of her three wins, fanning 31 batters in 19 innings while issuing only one walk. She tosses a one-hit shutout against McKendree (Ill.) University, striking out 10 in just five innings.
91±¬ÁÏÍø is 30-9 on the season and is receiving votes in the latest NAIA national coaches poll.
