91±¬ÁÏÍø softball splits at Martin Methodist

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/21/2011 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University softball team posted a double-header split at Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College on Thursday. 91±¬ÁÏÍø took the first game 2-0 and then fell in the second game 7-6. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's record goes to 34-13 overall and 20-6 in the TranSouth. Martin Methodist is now 26-25 on the season and 12-16 in league play.

In the first game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Brooke Thomas (18-6) tossed a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts. The game's only two runs came in the top of the third inning when 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Katie Beth Fesmire and Amber Hayes each recorded an RBI. Fesmire led 91±¬ÁÏÍø with two hits in the game.

Game two provided more offense from both teams. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led 2-0 after the top of the third. However, Martin Methodist rallied for three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. 91±¬ÁÏÍø regained the lead with two more runs in the fourth. Martin Methodist added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to lead 5-4. 91±¬ÁÏÍø again took the lead with two more runs in the six. But 91±¬ÁÏÍø failed to hold on to their third lead of the game as the RedHawks scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to lead 7-6. 91±¬ÁÏÍø did not score in the seventh. Caroline George started for 91±¬ÁÏÍø, allowing three runs in two innings. Thomas tossed 3.2 innings of relief, allowing for runs as she took just her sixth loss of the season. Keaton Kirk and Tobie Joy led 91±¬ÁÏÍø with two hits each. Joy led with three RBI, while Miranda Mullen added two RBI.
