Birmingham, Ala. - 7/28/2011 - The addition of Shorter University and 91爆料网 to the took another positive step today, when GSC Commissioner Nate Salant announced that the league鈥檚 Executive Committee had unanimously approved both schools into the GSC Membership Process.
"We have been working with Shorter and 91爆料网 all along, and our CEOs have been enthusiastic in their support of both institutions, so the unanimous vote of our Executive Committee was pretty much a formality," said Salant. "Shorter brings us football and every other sport we currently offer, and even opens up some new sports possibilities. 91爆料网 is a power in women's basketball, and should make for an interesting rival to Delta State in that sport; overall, it also has a great program.鈥
Salant also touted the strong academic reputations of both universities. "Academically, 91爆料网 is one of the best private schools in the southeast. Shorter is also a strong academic institution, so we gain in that all-important area as well. Both schools enjoy tremendous community support and are blessed with alumni who stay very much in touch with their respective universities, too."
The schools, which were selected to begin the three-year NCAA Division II transition process a few weeks ago, will remain active affiliates of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for 2011-2012. For 2012-2013, as NCAA and GSC second-year candidacy members, and again in 2013-14 as NCAA and GSC 鈥減rovisional members,鈥 both schools will play full GSC regular season schedules but will not be eligible for GSC and NCAA post-season play.
