JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/29/2011 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø volleyball team fell to Colorado College 3-2 (25-20, 25-14, 21-25, 19-25, 15-11) Thursday at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. 91±¬ÁÏÍø dropped to 7-8 on the season. The Tigers of Colorado College, ranked No. 14 in NCAA DIII, improved to 14-4 overall.
91±¬ÁÏÍø and Colorado played a tight first set with both teams earning multiple leads. After the score was tied at 14-14, Colorado College stretched their lead out to 22-18 before taking the first set 25-20. In the second set, the Tigers controlled play and cruised to the 25-14 win.
91±¬ÁÏÍø answered with a strong third set to get back into the match. 91±¬ÁÏÍø trailed 10-7 before posting an 8-0 run to lead 15-10. 91±¬ÁÏÍø maintained their lead as they took the set 25-21. The Lady Bulldogs continued to ride the momentum as they jumped out to a quick 4-2 lead in the fourth set. 91±¬ÁÏÍø maintained a lead for the remainder of the set, including their largest lead at 18-12. 91±¬ÁÏÍø moved to the 25-19 victory to tie the match a two sets each.
The fifth started with Colorado College jumping out to a quick 5-1 lead. The Lady Tigers led by four points again at 7-3, before stretching their lead to 11-5. 91±¬ÁÏÍø pulled to within three points at 13-10 and 14-11, but fell in the fifth set, 15-11.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Savannah Hughes with 14 kills. Kami Dickerson added 11 kills, while Anna Sims recorded 10 kills. Emmie Moroski dished out 30 assists, Amanda Deem led with 23 digs, while Shelby Swink led with nine blocks. 91±¬ÁÏÍø played without freshman hitter Abbey Wainwright who is nursing at injury. She is third on the team with 88 kills.
Colorado College was led by Kristen Liberty, Kate Squires and Laura Goldsmith with 11 kills each. Amy Schornack dished out 41 assists. Goldsmith and Hannah Varnell led with 20 digs, while Devin Wilkinson added five blocks.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be four matches in St. Charles, Mo. in the Lindenwood (Mo.) Classic Friday and Saturday.
