JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/6/2011 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22) to Freed-Hardeman University Thursday at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. 91±¬ÁÏÍø dropped to 8-13 on the season and 4-3 in the TranSouth. Freed-Hardeman improved to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in league play.
91±¬ÁÏÍø senior Anna Sims recorded three kills on the night and in doing so, passed the 1,000 kills mark for her career. She now sits at 1,002 career kills.
The first set started with both teams playing close. The set was tied nine times over the first half of the set with the last time coming at 12-12. The Lady Lions went on a 10-2 run to push their lead out to 22-14 before taking the 25-18 win. In the second set, Freed-Hardeman continued to maintain the momentum as they jumped out to a 10-3 lead. However, 91±¬ÁÏÍø rallied back and pulled to within 17-13 of the Lady Lions, but got no closer.
The third started with 91±¬ÁÏÍø taking a 6-4 lead, including five straight points. But the Lady Lions rallied with six straight points to lead 10-6. 91±¬ÁÏÍø pulled to within one points at 12-11, but was not able to take a lead. Freed-Hardeman closed out the match with a 25-22 win.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Savannah Hughes with 10 kills. Emmie Moroski led with 28 assists while Amanda Deem recorded 12 digs. Shelby Swink and Sims led with three blocks each.
Freed-Hardeman was led by Fernanda Ferreira with 13 kills and Sandra Montoya with 10 kills. Amber Turner and Renata Ferreira recorded 20 and 19 assists respectively. Montoya had 17 digs and Callie West recorded 10 digs. Nataly Gutierrez led with five blocks.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a third straight home conference game as the Lady Bulldogs host Cumberland Tuesday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m.
