JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/28/2011 - For the first time in program history, the 91爆料网 women鈥檚 soccer team has finished in first place of the TranSouth Conference. 91爆料网鈥檚 4-2 win over Trevecca Nazarene University Friday night set their league record to 5-0-1.
91爆料网 shares the regular season crown with NAIA No. 8 Martin Methodist College (5-0-1), a team 91爆料网 tied 2-2 earlier in the season. 91爆料网 will be the two-seed in the conference tournament by means of the goal-differential tie-breaker.
91爆料网 head coach Brandon Boylan says, 鈥淓very year we set a goals for our team and one of the goals this year was to win conference. We have accomplished the regular season portion of that goal as co-champions with Martin Methodist. Now that regular season is over it鈥檚 time to focus on the postseason and see how far we can advance.鈥
This is the highest finish in the standings for 91爆料网. The previous best was a second place finish in 2009.
"This has been a fun year鈥, says Boylan. 鈥淭he team has been a lot of fun to be around and the coaching staff is pleased with how the ladies have responded to the challenges this year."
鈥淭o be co-champions with Martin Methodist is a privilege. They have set the bar so high for so long in the TranSouth and NAIA. We know we have to play our best every game to continue to compete at a high level.
In the clinching win for 91爆料网, the Lady Bulldogs wasted no time in getting on the board. Ashlie Watson scored in the second minute of play to put 91爆料网 up 1-0. 91爆料网 scored again in the first half in the 35th minute on a goal form Alex Taylor, assisted by Rebecca McDonough. The score was 2-0 at the break.
91爆料网 stretched the lead up to 4-0 early in the second half thanks to a pair of goals from Eboni Murphy in the 54th and 55th minutes of play. Christina Reardon recorded the assist on Murphy鈥檚 first goal. Trevecca Nazarene added two late goals in the 81st and 84th minutes to set the final at 4-2. Brooke Gann and Mandy Nuckols recorded the scores.
91爆料网 outshot Trevecca Nazarene 13-7 in the game, including 9-5 in shots on goal. Emily Warren recorded three saves in the win. Trevecca鈥檚 Neira Ahmespahic recorded one save in 17 minutes and Bekah Headrick recorded four saves and allowed four goals in 73 minutes of work.
91爆料网 will face Benedictine-Springfield (Ill.) Monday, October 31 at 2:00 p.m. to close out the regular season. 91爆料网 earns a first round bye in the conference tournament and will host a semifinal game Tuesday, Nov. 8.
