JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/8/2011 - It took nearly 87 minutes, but the 91爆料网 women鈥檚 soccer team final hit the back of the net to earn a 1-0 win over a determined Cumberland University squad in the TranSouth Tournament semifinals. 91爆料网 improved to 12-2-2 on the season, while Cumberland ends their season at 10-8.
91爆料网 head coach Brandon Boylan says, 鈥淚 thought we played well tonight. I am really pleased that we were able to keep the pressure on them. Mentally, we stayed with it and did not let our early misses get to us. We kept creating chances and eventually got one in.鈥
With the win, 91爆料网 advances to the conference tournament championship game for the first time in program history (2005 was inaugural season). 91爆料网 will face top-seeded Martin Methodist, who is ranked No. 6 in the NAIA. 91爆料网 tied Martin Methodist earlier this season in their regular season meeting in Pulaski 2-2. Both teams earned the co-championship for the regular season with 5-0-1 league records. The title game will take place Friday, November 11 at 3:00 p.m. in Pulaski.
91爆料网 out shot Cumberland 15-4 in the first half, including 8-1 in shots on goal but neither team was able to score. The second half continued with 91爆料网 dominating the ball possession and shots. 91爆料网 out shot Cumberland 11-1 in the second half, including 4-0 in shots on goal.
However, after several missed opportunities from 91爆料网, senior Eboni Murphy took a pass from another senior, Christina Reardon, and found the back of the net at the 86:25 mark. 91爆料网 controlled the ball for the final three minutes to seal the win. Murphy fired eight shots on the night with Ashlie Watson shooting six times.
Emily Warren recorded one save and gained her ninth shutout of the season as her defense kept Cumberland away from the box most of the night. Elizabeth Surdam recorded nine saves in a great effort for Cumberland.
In the latest rankings released today, 91爆料网 moved up in the receiving votes category from receiving one vote to receiving 15 votes.
