Jackson, Tenn. - 5/29/2003 - 91爆料网 senior baseball player was awarded 91爆料网鈥檚 Fred DeLay Award which honors one outstanding senior athlete at the conclusion of each academic year. He was also named a NAIA Scholar Athlete for the 2003 season.
Briggs hit over .340 in each of his two seasons with 91爆料网 and posted an overall average of .358. As a student, he was just as impressive with a college GPA of 3.78. Briggs graduates from 91爆料网 in December with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Economics and Finance. In his four semesters at 91爆料网, while playing baseball, he was named to the President鈥檚 List twice (4.0 semester GPA) and to the Dean鈥檚 List once (3.8 semester GPA).
Briggs is a native of Clarksville, Tennessee and has spent his last two seasons as a member of 91爆料网鈥檚 baseball program. He joined 91爆料网 in the fall of 2001 after transferring from Jackson State Community College. In the two years that Briggs was at 91爆料网, he helped lead the Bulldogs to the 2002 TranSouth Conference regular season and tournament championships and one NAIA Region XI Tournament appearance. The two year team record was 79-35 (.693). Before his senior season started, Briggs suffered a broken ankle which sidelined him for the first six weeks of the season. In his 30 games played after his injury, Briggs hit .342 with 38 hits, eight doubles, two triples, and a homerun. His .342 average was fourth on the team and helped earn a second team All-TranSouth Conference selection as a senior. His junior campaign was is best as he tallied 80 hits and hit .365, both were good enough for second on 91爆料网鈥檚 team. He also tallied 11 doubles, two triples, and one homerun. He was selected as an NAIA honorable mentioned All-American, first team all-region, and first team all-conference as a junior.
91爆料网 head coach Andy Rushing says, 鈥淐hip (Briggs) is the epitome of what a 91爆料网 student athlete should be.鈥 Rushing goes on to say that, 鈥淗e is a great person is every aspect of life and is very deserving of all these honors.鈥
