JACKSON, Miss. - 11/29/2011 - The No. 22 91爆料网 men鈥檚 basketball team pulled out a 59-58 road victory at Belhaven University Tuesday night. 91爆料网 evened their record at 5-5, while Belhaven dropped to 2-7 overall.
91爆料网鈥檚 Skyler Vaden had just six points on the night, but his four points in the final 20 seconds catapulted 91爆料网 to the victory.
91爆料网 trailed by three points, 58-55 with 20 seconds left and the ball. Following a timeout, 91爆料网 immediately got the ball into the lane and scored on a Vaden layup. 91爆料网 then fouled on the inbounds pass to put Belhaven鈥檚 Daryl Arnold on the free throw line with 14 seconds left. After a miss on the first attempt, 91爆料网 took the rebound and went the length of the floor and scored on another driving layup by Vaden to take the lead. With just four seconds to go, Belhaven turned the ball over as they tried to get a final shot.
The game featured 17 lead changes and nine ties, including nine lead changes and four ties in the second half alone.
91爆料网 led by as many as four points in the first half, while Belhaven held their largest first half lead of three points late in the first half. 91爆料网 cut the halftime deficit to 29-27.
In the second half, both teams held a four point lead once. Belhaven held their largest lead of the game, 56-52 with 4:13 left to play. However, 91爆料网 outscored Belhaven 7-2 over the final four minutes to pull out the win.
91爆料网 was led by Leventrice Gray with 19 points. Dani Marti had 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Antoine Hall scored 11 points. 91爆料网 shot 45 percent from the field, 27 percent (4-15) from long range, and 60 percent (9-15) from the free throw line.
Belhaven was led by Woodie Howard with 12 points. Luke Rogers and Britton Smith scored 10 points each. The Blazers shot 38 percent from the field, 38 percent (6-16) from behind the arc, and 60 percent (6-10) from the free throw line.
