No. 2 91±¬ÁÏÍø rolls in final non-conference game

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/2/2012 - The No. 2 91±¬ÁÏÍø (Tenn.) University women’s basketball team posted their season high in points with a 99-55 win over the University of Virginia-Wise Monday night. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 13-1 overall, winning their 30th straight home game in the process. Virginia-Wise dropped to 2-11 on the season.

Senior guard Lavanda Ross posted a career high on the night with 28 points to go along with her 10 rebounds and seven assists. This is the second time this season for Ross to set a new career high as she posted 27 points in a win over Campbellsville (Ky.) earlier in the season.

Shelby Ashcraft and Mildred Olumasi also posted full stat sheets. Ashcraft added 16 points and eight rebounds to go with four blocks. Olumasi added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. All 10 Lady Bulldogs to play in the contest scored.

91±¬ÁÏÍø did much of their damage from behind the arc, sinking 15-of-30 (50%) 3-pointers. Astrid Huttemann led with four 3-pointers as a part of her 14 points in the contest. Ross hit three from long range, while Paige Parker, Emily Sissom and Amy Philamlee each hit two 3-pointers.

91±¬ÁÏÍø led 6-0 to start the game and pushed their first half lead to as many as 24 points, 44-20. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led 49-28 at the half. In the second half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø led by as many as 48 points twice, with the latest coming 97-49 with 2:46 left to play.

91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 50 percent from the field, 50 percent (15-30) from behind the arc, and 86 percent (14-15) from the free throw line.

Virginia-Wise was led by Chelsea Cluesman with 17 points and Kristin Mullins with 14 points. The Cavaliers shot 41 percent from the field, 21 percent (3-14) from long range, and 44 percent (8-18) from the free throw line.

Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be the first TranSouth game of the season when the Lady Bulldogs host No. 19 Bethel (Tenn.) Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
