CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - 1/2/2012 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø men’s basketball team fell 85-80 at No. 25 Campbellsville (Ky.) University. 91±¬ÁÏÍø dropped to 7-6 on the season, while Campbellsville improved to 11-3.
After exploding for 51 first half points, the 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs managed just 29 in the second half, including just four points in the final six minutes of play.
The Bulldogs led for most of the first half, including their largest lead of the night of 12 points, 42-30, with 5:16 left in the half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø clung to a 51-46 halftime lead.
In the second half, Campbellsville rallied to lead 56-55 with 15:55 left. The two team swapped leads twice more before 91±¬ÁÏÍø extended their advantage back out to eight points, 67-59. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led again by seven points, 76-69 with 5:56 left in the game. In that final 5:56, Campbellsville outscored 91±¬ÁÏÍø 16-4 to avoid the upset and complete the season sweep over the Bulldogs.
Campbellsville took the lead for good at 81-79 on a three pointer from Kevin Bobson with 1:06 left. The Tigers hit 4-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Both team shot lights out in the first half with 91±¬ÁÏÍø hitting 67 percent of their shots, while Campbellsville made 61 percent from the field. 91±¬ÁÏÍø cooled to 23 percent in the final 20 minutes, while Campbellsville managed 44 percent shooting in the second half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø sank 9-of-13 three pointers in the first half, compared to just 2-of-10 in the second half.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by David Lane with 23 points in the game, 18 of which came in the first half. Lane was 4-of-7 from long range. Antoine Hall added 22 points in the game, including 5-of-7 three pointers. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 45 percent from the field, 48 percent (11-23) from long range, and 60 percent (15-25) from the free throw line.
Campbellsville was led by Cedric Henderson with 21 points. Jordan Myers added 13 points, Malik Thomas scored 12 points, Bobson and Reggie Smith added 10 points each. The Tigers shot 54 percent from the field, 38 percent (9-24) form three point range, and 67 percent (16-24) from the free throw line.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be their TranSouth Conference opener Thursday at home versus Bethel (Tenn.) at 8:00 p.m.
