No. 2 91爆料网 women hold off Martin Methodist 71-64

PULASKI, Tenn. - 1/7/2012 - The No. 2 91爆料网 women鈥檚 basketball team held off Martin Methodist College on road for a 71-64 win. 91爆料网 improved to 15-1 overall and 2-0 in the TranSouth. Martin Methodist dropped to 9-4 on the season and 0-1 in league play.

91爆料网 entered the game with the NAIA鈥檚 No. 5 ranked defense, allowing just 52 points per game. Martin Methodist came in with the NAIA鈥檚 No. 2 ranked offense, scoring 94 points per game. 91爆料网鈥檚 defense held the RedHawks to 30 points below their average. 91爆料网 has not allowed a team this season to score more than 69 points.

Martin Methodist scored first on a basket from Micah Anderson to lead 2-0. It was the only lead of the afternoon for the RedHawks. 91爆料网 answered with three pointer from Rebecca Sharpe to take the lead for good. 91爆料网 led by as many as nine points in the first half, before taking a 34-30 lead into the break.

In the second half, Martin Methodist cut the deficit to just one point with a 5-2 run to start the half. But again, 91爆料网 was able to answer with a three pointer, this time from Astrid Hutteman. 91爆料网 held their largest lead of the game of 13 points, 67-54, with 2:55 left. A pair of late three pointers from Martin Methodist helped cut into the final margin of victory.

91爆料网 was led by Lavanda Ross with a game-high 24 points, including 13 in the second half. Huttemann added 13 points, including three 3-pointers. Shelby Ashcraft reached double figures for the third straight game with 10 points. Amy Philamlee led the way with eight assists to go with her seven points. Rebecca Sharpe continued her hot shooting as she made two 3-pointers as a part of her eight points. She has now made 12 three pointers in the last seven games. 91爆料网 shot 40 percent from the field, 27 percent (7-26) from long range, and 50 percent (4-8) from the free throw line.

Martin Methodist was led by Vee Young with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jessy Christopher added 15 points and 10 assists. Becca Smithson scored 11 points and Anderson added 10 points. Martin Methodist shot 37 percent from the field, 35 percent (7-20) from behind the arc, and 83 percent (5-6) from the free throw line.

Up next for 91爆料网 will be a home conference game Thursday, January 12 at 6:00 p.m. versus Lyon (Ark.).
