JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/16/2012 - The No. 3 91±¬ÁÏÍø women’s basketball posted their 33nd straight home win Monday night with a 79-46 victory over Mid-Continent (Ky.) University. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 17-2 on the season and 4-1 in the TranSouth. Mid-Continent dropped to 6-11 overall and 1-3 in league play.
91±¬ÁÏÍø never trailed in the contest that included three ties early in the game. The last was 9-9 at the 11:45 mark of the first half. After the slow start, 91±¬ÁÏÍø began to find their range. 91±¬ÁÏÍø posted a 23-6 run over the next six minutes to push their lead out to 17 points. Included in the run was a pair of three pointers from Paige Parker, one of which resulted in a 4-point play. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led by as many as 20 points in the first half, before taking a 41-22 lead into the break.
In the second half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø extended their lead to as many as 38 points, 74-36 with 5:51 left. 91±¬ÁÏÍø cruised down the stretch for the 79-46 final.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Mildred Olumasi with 19 points and 12 rebounds. This is the second straight game for Olumasi to lead 91±¬ÁÏÍø in scoring while also recording a double-double. Also, for the second straight game, Olumasi set a new career high.
Four other players scored in double figures for 91±¬ÁÏÍø including Lavanda Ross with 14, Parker and Astrid Huttemann with 12 points and Amy Philamlee with 11 points. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 44 percent from the field, 30 percent (9-30) from long range and 70 percent (16-23) from the free throw line.
Mid-Continent was led by Asia Grigsby with 15 points and Chantiera Johnson with 11 points. The Lady Cougars shot 28 percent from the field, 20 percent (3-15) from long range and 81 percent ( 17-21) from the free throw line.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a road conference game Thursday, January 19 at 6:00 p.m. at Cumberland in Lebanon, Tenn.
