JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/26/2012 - The No. 3 91±¬ÁÏÍø women’s basketball topped Trevecca Nazarene University 102-49 Thursday night. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 20-2 on the season and 7-1 in the TranSouth. Trevecca Nazarene dropped to 7-12 overall and 3-4 in league play.
91±¬ÁÏÍø jumped out to a quick 13-3 lead thanks to three 3-pointers from Rebecca Sharpe. 91±¬ÁÏÍø sank seven of their first nine 3-pointers in the game and never looked back. 91±¬ÁÏÍø pushed their first half lead to as many as 41 points. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led 51-11 with 4:59 left in the first half, before taking a 58-22 lead into the locker room.
91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 67 percent from the field in the first half and 50 percent from long range, making 7-of-14 thee pointers.
In the second half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø extended their lead to as many as 54 points, before taking the 102-49 final. This was the first time all season for 91±¬ÁÏÍø to reach the 100-point mark in a game. Their previous high was 99 points in a win over Virginia-Wise in early January. It was just their second time to reach at least 90 points this season.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Sharpe with a career-high 20 points in the game, including 5-opf-7 from long range. Lavanda Ross scored 19 points while Amy Philamlee added 18 points. Mildred Olumasi poured in a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds and Paige Parker added 11 points. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 55 percent from the field, 41 percent (15-37) from long range, and 71 percent from the free throw line (17-24).
Trevecca Nazarene was led by Anna Mitchell with 22 points and Rachel Raby with 10 points. Anissa Ragland added 12 rebounds. The Trojans shot 29 percent from the field, 15 percent (2-13) from behind the arc, and 63 percent (17-27) from the free throw line.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a road test at Bethel, Thursday February 2. This will begin the second half of TranSouth Conference play.
