JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/4/2012 - The No. 3 91±¬ÁÏÍø women’s basketball topped Martin Methodist College 82-69. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 22-2 on the season and 9-1 in league play. Martin Methodist dropped to 15-8 overall and 4-5 in the TranSouth.
91±¬ÁÏÍø keeps pace atop the TranSouth standings in a tie for first with Freed-Hardeman. This win was the sixth straight overall for 91±¬ÁÏÍø and the 35th straight home victory.
91±¬ÁÏÍø took charge early as they jumped out to a quick 9-1 lead. 91±¬ÁÏÍø keep pushing and extended their lead to as many as 24 points in the first half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø held their largest lead of the half at 42-18, before taking a 45-23 lead into the locker room. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 43 percent in the first half and made 6-of-17 three pointers.
In the second half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø extended their lead to as many as 25 points and with four minutes left in the game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø led by 22 points, 79-57. Over the final four minutes, Martin Methodist outscored 91±¬ÁÏÍø 12-3. Ten of Martin Methodist’s final 12 points came at the free throw line as they cut the final score down to 82-69.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Mildred Olumasi with 18 points and nine rebounds. Shelby Ashcraft added 15 points and Amy Philamlee scored 11 points. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 41 percent from the field, 38 percent (11-29) from behind the arc, and 73 percent (19-26) from the free throw line.
Martin Methodist was led by Vee Young with a game-high 33 points. Young was 16-of-20 from the free throw line. Micah Anderson added 11 points for the RedHawks. The RedHawks shot 32 percent from the field, 18 percent (3-17) from long range, and 77 percent (30-39) from the free throw line.
