No. 2 91±¬ÁÏÍø clinches sixth straight TranSouth regular season title

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/18/2012 - The No. 2 91±¬ÁÏÍø women’s basketball team posted an 80-33 win over Blue Mountain (Miss.) College in the final regular season home game of the year. In doing so, 91±¬ÁÏÍø clinched their sixth straight TranSouth Regular Season Title and 14th in the 16-year history of the league. 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and will host all three games should they advance to the finals.

The win for 91±¬ÁÏÍø (27-2, 14-1 TranSouth) was their 11th straight win and consecutive win No. 38 at home.

Blue Mountain (4-21, 1-13 TranSouth) opened the game with a three pointer from Katie Prince. The Lady Toppers stayed hot early and at the 17:13 mark, led 8-2. The Lady Toppers led by six again at 10-4, before 91±¬ÁÏÍø began to rally. 91±¬ÁÏÍø posted an 11-0 run to take a 15-10 lead and the Lady Bulldogs did not look back. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led by as many as 20 in the first half, before taking the 41-23 lead into the locker room.

91±¬ÁÏÍø opened the second half much different than the first. 91±¬ÁÏÍø posted a 16-0 run to start the half as Blue Mountain went just over seven minutes without scoring. 91±¬ÁÏÍø stretched their lead to as many as 49 points in the second half, 78-29.

The 33 points allowed by 91±¬ÁÏÍø was the second fewest of the season (32 vs. Rust, 11/29/11). 91±¬ÁÏÍø has held six of their last eight opponents to less than 50 points. 91±¬ÁÏÍø is allowing just 51.8 points per game which is No. 5 in the NAIA.

91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Lavanda Ross with 18 points. Emily Sissom added 12 points on four 3-pointers, Astrid Huttemann scored 11 points, while Mildred Olumasi and Mrashi Karumba each added 10 points. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 37 percent from the field, 26 percent (9-35) from 3-point range, and 88 percent (15-17) from the free throw line.

Blue Mountain was led by Prince with nine points and nine rebounds. The Lady Toppers shot 22 percent from the field, 13 percent (3-23) from long range and 80 percent (8-10) form the free throw line.

Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be the final regular season game of the year at Trevecca Nazarene, Thursday, February 23 at 6:00 p.m.
