MEMPHIS, Tenn. - 2/21/2012 - The No. 17 91±¬ÁÏÍø softball posted a double-header sweep at Christian Brothers University Tuesday. 91±¬ÁÏÍø won the first game 5-4 and then took the second game 5-0. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 3-1 on the season, while Christian Brothers dropped to 1-3.
Freshman pitcher Kelly Robey (1-0) tossed a complete game, one-hitter, striking out 10 batters while walking just one. She faced just three over the minimum. 91±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s offense did the rest, scoring four times in the third and once in the sixth, pounding out 11 hits in the game. Katie Davis led the way with three hits and two RBI. Keaton Kirk and Stephanie Saunders added two hits each.
In the first game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø rallied from down 3-0 to lead 5-3. CBU threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but their rally was stopped short. CBU scored three times in the bottom of the fourth before 91±¬ÁÏÍø tied the game with three runs in the fifth innings. 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Brooke Thomas (1-1) earned the win, allowing four runs, three earned in 6.1 innings pitched, while striking out nine hitters. Caroline George got the final two outs with no hits or walks and one strikeout, securing her first save of the year. 91±¬ÁÏÍø had just six hits in the game, led by DeShuni Sanders and Davis with two each. Four different players recorded one RBI. Sam Geisler hit a solo home run for 91±¬ÁÏÍø to lead off the sixth inning. The game-winning run for 91±¬ÁÏÍø was scored in the seventh by Sanders, who led off the inning with a triple.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a home double-header Saturday versus Cardinal-Stritch (Wis.) University at 10:00 a.m.
