MEMPHIS, Tenn. - 2/28/2012 - The No. 14 91±¬ÁÏÍø baseball team improved o 9-2 on the season with a 7-6 win at Christian Brothers University Tuesday. Christian Brothers dropped to 4-7 on the season.
91±¬ÁÏÍø starter Jacob Alexander lasted just two innings, allowing five runs, four earned on six hits with two strike outs. Christian Brothers scored twice in the first, once in the second and twice in the third. 91±¬ÁÏÍø managed two runs in the top of the second on a 2-RBI single from Kody Pinson to tie the game briefly. With 91±¬ÁÏÍø down 5-2, the Bulldogs posted a 4-spot in the top of the fifth inning. Pinson added two more RBI on a double, followed by an RBI double from Danny Grimm and a sacrifice fly from Clint Barnes to put 91±¬ÁÏÍø up 6-5.
Will Irving pitched 4.1 innings of relief, allowing just one run on five hits with a strikeout. His lone run allowed came in the bottom of the seventh that tied to tie the game at 6-6. 91±¬ÁÏÍø answered right back in the top of the eighth to regain the lead. After two quick outs, 91±¬ÁÏÍø got back-to-back doubles from Kian Jost and RJ Rayborn to go up 7-6. Senior Cody Dew earned this fourth win of the season (4-0) with 2.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing four hits while striking out one.
Clint Barnes led 91±¬ÁÏÍø with a 3-for-5 day with one RBI in the lead-off spot. Hitters in the 5-9 spot in the line up each recorded two hits head and accounted for all seven runs scored and six of the team’s seven RBI. Pinson led the team with four RBI in his 2-for-5 afternoon.
Jake Porter took the loss for Christian Brothers in relief, allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout. Alan Wright was 3-for-5 with two RBI to lead the Bucs.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a home double-header Wednesday afternoon versus Harris-Stowe (Mo.) State University starting a 1:00 p.m.
