91±¬ÁÏÍø Signs Ole Miss Transfer and Former North Side Star

Jackson, Tenn. - 7/15/2003 - , a transfer from Ole Miss, has signed to play his senior year for the 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldog baseball team. Yates is a former North Side High School baseball and football star that has spent his last three seasons pitching for the Ole Miss Rebels in the Southeastern Conference.

Yates, a 6-foot-3 right hander, joins the Bulldog pitching staff after putting up good numbers for the Rebels. In his first two seasons with Ole Miss, Yates led the Rebels in appearances with 25 as a freshman and 24 as a sophomore. He was named a first team Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Yates posted a 7-3 record, including seven straight victories to set a new freshman school record for victories and consecutive victories. To start his sophomore campaign, he didn’t allow a run in his first eight relief appearances and allowed no earned runs for a stretch of 14.0 innings February 22 – March 17. Yates converted 8-of-8 save opportunities spanning his first two seasons. As a junior, he dropped to just nine appearances.

This summer, Yates is playing in his second season in the Cape Cod League for the Chatham Athletics. Last summer he went 1-3 with two saves and posted a 2.85 ERA. He threw 41.0 innings, allowing 17 earned runs, striking out 29 batters, and walking just 12.

Yates is a 2000 graduate of North Side High School in Jackson where he was a two-sport star. He was named an All-State performer twice and named three times to the All-District and All-Region teams. During his four years of high school baseball, he compiled a 31-1 record with 1.85 ERA. In his career, he struck out 281 batters and walked just 75. As a hitter, Yates batted .424 with four homeruns and 29 RBI. In addition to earning four letters in baseball, he also earned four letters in football at North Side. He was named the 1998 and 1999 Team MVP, 1998 Most Improved Player, and 2000 North Side Male Athlete of the Year.
