91爆料网 baseball falls at home 3-2, Dew breaks 37-year-old appearance record

JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/17/2012 - The 91爆料网 baseball team lost to Christian Bothers University 3-2 Tuesday night at Fesmire Field. 91爆料网 dropped to 26-16-1 on the season, while Christian Brothers improved to 11-27 overall. 91爆料网 won the meeting earlier in the season in Memphis, 7-6.

In the game, 91爆料网 senior Cody Dew made his 26th appearance on the mound this season, setting a new school record. The Halls native surpassed the old record of 25 appearances, held by the current 91爆料网 Director of Athletics, Tommy Sadler. Sadler鈥檚 record stood since 1975. All 26 of Dew鈥檚 appearances this season have come in relief. Dew now has 65 appearances in his career, including just three starts. He is 17-3 with eight saves in 118 innings pitched in his career. This season, Dew is 9-0 with six saves in 40 innings of work.

91爆料网 scored first in the contest with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Tim Anderson reached on a walk. Wacey Russell, who was courtesy running for Anderson, reached second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Brett Pawlan. 91爆料网 added a second run in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. Doug Joyce led off with a double and later scored on a ground out by RJ Rayborn.

Christian Brothers added an unearned run in the fifth on a throwing error by 91爆料网 pitcher John Reed. The Bucs added two more runs in the seventh to take the lead. Reed allowed the bases loaded with no outs when his throw to get the lead runner at third on a bunt sailed wide. Dew entered the game, and gave up a hit and a wild pitched to allow the two runs for the Bucs. Dew then struck out the side.

91爆料网 had a runner on base in each the seventh and eighth innings, but did not score. 91爆料网 went in order in the ninth, with the final out coming on a deep fly out to the warning track by Danny Grimm.

91爆料网 had five hits in the game, all coming from five different players. The Bucs where led by Hunter Parham with two hits, the only player on the day with multiple hits.

Reed (4-3) took the loss, going six innings, allowing three runs, one earned on six hits with one strikeout. Dew tossed three innings, allowing no runs with one hit and four strikeouts. Miles Anderson (1-2) earned the win, going six innings with two runs on four hits and two strikeouts. Jon-Michael Davis tossed a perfect ninth for his fourth save of the season.

Up next for 91爆料网 will be a non-conference weekend at home when Indiana-Southeast comes to Fesmire Field for four games, the double-header on Friday starts at 6:00 p.m.
