JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/27/2012 - The 91爆料网 baseball team swept Blue Mountain (Miss.) College in a double-header to close out the regular season Friday at Fesmire Field. 91爆料网 took game one 3-1 and then won game two 4-1. 91爆料网 improved to 33-17-1 overall and 14-8-1 in conference play. Blue Mountain dropped to 22-29 overall and 7-17 in conference play.
In the second game of the day, Jackson native and former USJ standout Benjie Fesmire (5-2) had a perfect game going through five complete innings. However, an error in the sixth allowed the first base runner of the game to reach against Fesmire. Then a couple of hits in the top of the seventh inning broke up Fesmire鈥檚 no-hitter. Cody Dew (8) finished the game, preserving the win for Fesmire.
The game was scoreless until 91爆料网 finally broke through with single runs in the fourth and fifth, followed by a pair of runs in the sixth. 91爆料网 scored first when courtesy runner Wacey Russell scored on a dropped third strike. Danny Grimm, Doug Joyce and Cole McAdams provided the other three RBI for 91爆料网.
91爆料网 senior outfielder Brett Pawlan extended his hit streak to 13 straight games with hits in both games Friday. Pawlan is hitting .410 on the season and has hit safely in 22 of his last 24 games.
In the first game, Jacob Alexander (3-1) earned the win in five innings of work while Cody Dew got the first of his two saves on the day. Jon Paul Barber fell to 4-8 on the season giving up two earned runs on three hits in four innings for Blue Mountain. The Bulldogs scored in the first inning with singles from Brett Pawlan and Doug Joyce. 91爆料网 added to their score in the bottom of the second with an RBI triple by Kody Pinson.
91爆料网 finished the regular season in second place in the TranSouth after the weekend sweep. 91爆料网 will face Cumberland University at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the TranSouth Conference Tournament. The tournament will be at 91爆料网鈥檚 Fesmire Field for the second straight season. 91爆料网 is looking to defend their tournament title from last season.
