Bulldogs Open Season with Big Win; Lady Bulldogs Roll

Jackson, Tenn. - 11/1/2003 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Lady Bulldogs overcame another slow start and pulled away for a 91-64 win over Claflin University. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led by just one (38-37) at halftime and trailed by as many as three point late in the first half. Much like the previous night, 91±¬ÁÏÍø outscored Claflin 53-27 in the second half. Laura Mitchell led 91±¬ÁÏÍø with 15 points, all of which came from her 5-of-6 shooting from three-point land. Five other Lady Bulldogs tallied double figures. LaToya Fuller, Jessica Henson, and Christina Smith added 12, while Ginger Bryant and Miriam Wandanda added 11 and 10 points respectively. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led by as many as 28 points in the game.

On the men's side, it was all 91±¬ÁÏÍø from the start in their 110-71 win over Williams Baptist. 91±¬ÁÏÍø jumped out to a 15-0 run to start the game and led by as many as 41 points in the first half before going to the locker room with a 66-27 lead. The second half was much more even as both teams tallied 44 points but the damage was done. 91±¬ÁÏÍø had four players in double figure scoring at halftime and finished the game with seven players reaching the double figure mark. Chima Abakwue led all scorers with 24 points on 6-of-12 shooting from behind the arc. Pierry Valmeria added 18 points, Bruno Martinessi added 16, Michael Palmer and Ben Frederick scored 14 points, Will Harris scored 13, and Matt Trammell added 11. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 57% from the field including 41% (14-34) from behind the arc.
