91±¬ÁÏÍø Volleyball Sweeps TranSouth Honors

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/5/2004 - 91±¬ÁÏÍø volleyball, for the second time this season, has swept the TranSouth Conference weekly honors. Gladys Wandera was named the player of the week, Nicole Garber was named the setter of the week, and Allison Shein was named the libero of the week. These three seniors helped lead 91±¬ÁÏÍø to a 2-0 week which improved their overall record to 10-1 and the conference leading record to 4-0.

, a 6-foot-2 senior from Kakamega, Kenya, was a major player in leading 91±¬ÁÏÍø to an undefeated week at 2-0. For the week Gladys averaged 5.50 kills per game, 2.33 digs per game, and 1.17 blocks per game. Wandera leads 91±¬ÁÏÍø with 217 kills (6.2 per game), 46 service aces (1.31 per game), and 44 blocks (1.26 per game). This is the second player of the week honor for Wandera this season.

, a 5-foot-7 senior from Columbus, Indiana, was a huge reason the Lady Bulldogs had an undefeated week, going 2-0, with victories over TSAC rival Lyon College. For the week Nicole averaged 14.40 assists per game (72 assists in 5 games played) and recorded 12 digs and 2 service aces. Garber leads 91±¬ÁÏÍø with 385 assists (12.83 per game). For Garber, this is her third setter of the week honor this season.

, a 5-foot-7 senior from Lighthouse Point, Florida, led the Lady Bulldogs to two victories this week, including a conference victory over Lyon College. For the week, Shein averaged 5.00 digs per game and attempted 32 passes with only 8 errors. Shein leads 91±¬ÁÏÍø with 151 digs (4.19 per game). This is Shein’s second libero of the week honor of the season.

Up next for No. 23 91±¬ÁÏÍø volleyball will be a home match tonight (Tuesday, Oct. 5) versus Trevecca Nazarene University at 7:00 pm. On Friday, 91±¬ÁÏÍø travels to play NAIA No. 11 Georgetown College (Ky.) in a battle for top spot in the Region XI standings. Currently Georgetown is No. 1 and 91±¬ÁÏÍø is No. 2 in the region rankings.
