JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/23/2004 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to defeat William Carey College (Miss.) 71-52. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improves to 5-2 on the season, while William Carey falls to 2-3 overall.
91±¬ÁÏÍø shot just 27% from the field in the first half, including just 29% (5-18) from behind the arc. Those percentage improved greatly in the second half as 91±¬ÁÏÍø managed 54% from the field and 44% (4-of-9) from three point range. William Carey outrebounded 91±¬ÁÏÍø 43 to 36, however 91±¬ÁÏÍø won the turnover battle as they committed just 10 to William Carey's 20 in the game.
91±¬ÁÏÍø trailed 27-24 at the break but outscored William Carey 47-25 in the second half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led by as many as 22 points in the game. Corey Burkett bounced back from his worst point output of the season (three vs. McKendree) to lead all scorers with 19 points, including five three pointers. Cortney Jones, of Newbern, scored 16 for 91±¬ÁÏÍø on 3-of-5 shooting from behind the arc and Bruno Martinessi added 10 points for 91±¬ÁÏÍø. Michael Palmer led the Bulldogs with nine rebounds.
William Carey was led by Renaldo Dorsey with 11 points and Jeremy Irby with 10 points. Rudy Bell tallied 13 rebounds in the game.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be the Bulldog Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 26 and 27. Friday's game include Freed-Hardeman versus McKendree at 6:00 pm followed by 91±¬ÁÏÍø versus McKendree at 8:00 pm. On Saturday, Freed-Hardeman will play McKendree at 2:00 pm and 91±¬ÁÏÍø will play Faulkner at 4:00 pm.
