91±¬ÁÏÍø Men Upset No. 19 Cumbeland, Ladies Also Earn Win Over Ranked Cumberland

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/29/2005 - The Bulldogs of 91±¬ÁÏÍø earned two big TranSouth Wins on Saturday as the men topped No. 19 Cumberland University (Tenn.) 70-67 and the second ranked 91±¬ÁÏÍø Lady Bulldogs defeated No. 13 Cumberland 70-63.

In the women's game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø (20-2, 2-2 TranSouth) jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and then stretched that lead to as high as 15 ponts in the first half before taking a 41-31 lead into halftime. In the second half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø came out firing as they stretched the lead out to 19 points (59-40) with just over 13 minutes left in the game. However, Cumerland (20-5, 4-2 TranSouth)slowly mounted a comeback that would see 91±¬ÁÏÍø's lead be cut to just two points (62-60) with 4:42 left in the game. 91±¬ÁÏÍø rebounded and jumped back up by 10 before winning 70-63. 91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Stephanie Clark with 18 points and 17 rebounds. Tiffany Fishier tallied 12 points. All nine Lady Bulldogs that played tallied at least three points, including Jennifer Henson who drained a three pointer to stretch the lead to seven points late in the game. This was Henson's first game back since sufferring a knee injury on Jan. 13. Cumberland was led by Vita Venskunaite and Lee Lee Cannon with 11 points and Renae Williams with 10 points.

The men's game was just as exciting. Cumberland (14-7, 3-1 TranSouth) led 3-2, but 91±¬ÁÏÍø (14-7, 2-1 TranSouth) took the lead on the next possesion and never trailed again during the first half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led by as many as 11 points in the first half before taking an eight-point (36-28) halftime lead. In the second half, Cumberland rallied, took the lead, and stretched their lead to six points on three different occasions in the second half. With 4:45 left in the game, Cumberland led 63-57, then 91±¬ÁÏÍø started their rally and took the lead for good on a three-point field goal by Michael Palmer with the shot clock expiring. 91±¬ÁÏÍø would use clutch free throws by Valmera, Burkett, and Ross to seal the win.
