91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs In First Place with Win Over Freed-Hardeman, Lady Bulldogs Fall to Lady Lions

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/5/2005 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs took over sole possesion of first place in the TranSouth Conference men's standings with a 79-54 win over Freed-Hardeman University. The Bulldogs improved to 16-7 overall and 4-1 in league play. This was their fourth win in a row.

The Lady Bulldogs of 91±¬ÁÏÍø lost their third conference game of the season as they fell 70-60 to the Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman. 91±¬ÁÏÍø dropped to 21-3 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. This marks the first time in the history of the TranSouth Conference (started 1996) that 91±¬ÁÏÍø has tallied three losses. 91±¬ÁÏÍø has won has won all eight TranSouth regular season title before this season.

In the men's game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø closes out the first half with a 21-5 run to take a 42-16 halftime lead over Freed-Hardeman. 91±¬ÁÏÍø used a big nights from their four big guys to earn this win. 91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Ben Frederick with 17 points, Bruno Martinessi with 16 points, Pierry Valmera with 11 points, and Cortney Jones with 11 points. Michael Palmer and Marcus Cooper added nine points each. Freed-Hardeman was paced by Clint Haynes with 13 points. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot .552 (32-58) from the field and held the Lions to just .339 (20-59) shooting. Neither team shot well from behind the arc as 91±¬ÁÏÍø posted 4-of-14 (.286) while Freed-Hardeman made just 5-of-21 (.238). 91±¬ÁÏÍø was without their leading scorer in Corey Burkett.

In the women's game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø and Freed-Hardeman finished a first half that had five ties and seven lead changes with a 31-31 tie going into the intermission. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led by as many as six points during the first half, while the Lady Lions led by as many as five points during the first half. The second half was much of the season with 91±¬ÁÏÍø taking a six point out of the gate. Freed-Hardeman rallied to tie the game at the 9:18 minute mark and would not trail again. 91±¬ÁÏÍø managed to tie the game on four different occations, but cold second half shooting hurt the Lady Bulldogs down the stretch in the 70-60 loss. 91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Stephane Clark with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Merideth Richardson added 16 points including 4-of-14 three pointers. Freed-Hardeman had five players in double figures led by Kari Bishop with 16 points. Ashlee Robertson added 15 points, Stacy Myers scored 12 points, Julie Hayes added 12 points, and Stacey Bullard scored 10 points. Freed-Hardeman again shot lights out from behind the arc against 91±¬ÁÏÍø by making 6-of-11 (.545), while 91±¬ÁÏÍø managed just 6-of-22 (.273).
