JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/27/2005 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø men's soccer team improved to 11-1-1 on the year with one of the biggest wins of the season. The Bulldogs topped the No. 13 ranked Missouri Baptist University Spartans 4-1. The Spartans fell to 12-3-1 on the season.
91±¬ÁÏÍø scored first on a header by Mark Forrest in the fifth minute of play, assisted by Gareth Munro. For the junior Forrest, this was his first goal of his college career. 91±¬ÁÏÍø quickly added two more goals, one by Munro in the 20th minute and the other by Michael Pugh in the 35 minute. Kyle Sanders and Benny Crozier added one assist each in the match.
91±¬ÁÏÍø took that 3-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored first again with the second tally of the day by Munro in the 60th minute. Missouri Baptist added their only goal with 15 minutes to play to make the final score 4-1.
The Bulldogs look to use this win to boost them into position for an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament. Of course, 91±¬ÁÏÍø is ready for run over the next two weeks in the TranSouth Conferenc and NAIA Region XI Tournaments. The conference tournament will be on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5 in Lebanon, Tenn. with the region tournament the following week in Columbia, Kentucky.
91±¬ÁÏÍø has one regular season match remaining as they play host to Williams Baptist College (Ark.) tomorrow (Friday), October 28 at 6:00 pm. The event will be senior night for the Bulldogs.
