91±¬ÁÏÍø Tops Missouri Baptist in Battle of Ranked Teams to Open the Season

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/4/2005 - The sixth ranked 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs defeated No. 24 Missouri Baptist University 104-83 on Friday night to open their 2005-06 season. 91±¬ÁÏÍø goes to 1-0 on the year while Missouri Baptist falls to 1-1 overall.

91±¬ÁÏÍø trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half as Missouri Baptist shot .636 from the field and .643 (9-14) from behind the arc. However 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot well also and started a rally that would see the Bulldogs take their first lead of the game, 42-41, at the 3:08 mark in the first half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot .625 from the three point line (5-8) in the first half, but couldn't hold the lead as the Spartan took a 52-47 halftime lead.

In the second half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø started to take over as they kept up their hot shooting, while watching Missouri Baptist go cold. 91±¬ÁÏÍø outscored the Spartans 57-31 in the second period.

For the game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot .548 from the field including .643 (9-14) from behind the arc. The Buldogs also managed .714 (15-21) from the free throw line. 91±¬ÁÏÍø was paced with six players in double figures led by Kinley Sellers with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Mak Bealim added 17 points, Rod Ross scored 16 points, Pierry Valmeria added 13 points (10 in the second half), Corey Burkett scored 12 points and Ben Frederick added 12 points. Missouri Baptist was led by Darvin Whitley and Franklin Pen with 17 points each. Ryan Byrne added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

91±¬ÁÏÍø plays next on Saturday, Nov. 5 in Henderson, Tennessee versus Concordia College (Ala.).
