MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - 11/15/2005 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs traveled to Murfreesboro to battle NCAA Div. I opponent Middle Tennessee State University on Tuesday night in an exhibition game. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led by as many as 14 points, but couldn’t hold on in the second half as MTSU pulled away late to win 95-82.
In the first half, Middle Tennessee State scored first to take a 2-0 lead, but a jump shot by Ben Frederick tied the game for 91±¬ÁÏÍø and the Bulldogs would not trail again in the first half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead and kept building as the pushed the lead to 27-14 with 9:30 left in the first half. Middle Tennessee State rallied to cut the lead to just three points at 30-27 before 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored 17 of the next 23 points to take their biggest lead of the first half at 47-33. As the time expired on the first half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø held a 47-37 lead. The Bulldogs used the hot shooting of Kinley Sellers as he made five three pointers in the first half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 62% from the field, including 6-of-8 (75%) from behind the arc. Middle Tennessee State shot just 37% from the field and made just 1-of-9 three pointers.
Just as the game when to halftime, the officials in the Murphy Center at Middle Tennessee State University moved everyone in the arena to the underground tunnels in the arena. Officials received word that the severe weather in the area had spawned a tornado in the area of the campus. The game was delayed for about 30 minutes.
In the second half, it was Middle Tennessee State who made the big shots. The Blue Raiders started the second half on a 6-0 run and then took their first lead of the game since it was 2-0 on a three pointer by Adam Vogelsburg. Vogelsburg had four three pointers in the second half. Middle Tennessee State stretched their lead to nine points at 74-65 with just under eight minutes remaining in the game. 91±¬ÁÏÍø again battled back as they cut the lead to just one point at 81-80 on back-to-back three pointers by Corey Burkett and Kinley Sellers. However that would be as close as the Bulldogs would get as they pulled away to the 95-82 win.
In a game that was a one point game with three minutes left, 91±¬ÁÏÍø had costly turnovers late that limited their rally. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 50% from the field, including 50% from the three point line. MTSU managed 40% from the field and 38% from the three point line.
