Barat Wins Overtime Thriller To Advance To Quarters

Kansas City, MO - 3/15/2002 - Barat College (Ill.), upset second-seeded 91爆料网 (Tenn.), 97-86 in overtime in second-round action at the 2002 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men鈥檚 Basketball National Championship Tournament.

听Barat jumped to an early lead and extended it to as much as 21 points midway through the first half before 91爆料网 went on a 24-10 run to pull within eight points at the close out the half.

听Barat (32-5) started the second half with a three-point basket by freshman Larry English and extended its lead to 15 at the 16:53 mark.听 91爆料网 rallied with an16-0 run to take the lead with just under 10 minutes remaining.听 The lead exchanged hands seven times in six minutes before Bruno Martinessi hit a 15-foot fieldgoal with 38 seconds to send the game into overtime.

听I knew they were going to get their run.听 They didn鈥檛 get to be the No. 2 team in the nation by being a bum squad,鈥� said Barat head coach Chris Daleo.听鈥淲e鈥檙e a team of runs.听 We鈥檒l give up some runs, but we鈥檒l get a lot too.听 Tonight we got the last run.鈥�

听Barat鈥檚 last run was a 12-2 stint with 2:54 remaining in the extra period to secure the win.听 The Bulldogs were led by junior Troy Farrow with 19 points. Sophomore Sidney Holmes recorded a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds.

听91爆料网 was led by senior Robert Joseph with 28 points.听 Martinessi added 18 as the Bulldogs finished their season with a 31-5 record.

听Barat advances to meet unseeded Westmont College (Calif.) (22-9), which defeated No. 7 Mountain State University (W.Va.) earlier in the day, in a quarterfinal game on Saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m. (Central).
