91±¬ÁÏÍø Men Rally for 74-73 Win Over Lyon

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/26/2006 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs rallied from an 11-point second half deficit to defeat the Lyon College Scots 74-73 at 91±¬ÁÏÍø on Thursday night. 91±¬ÁÏÍø, ranked No. 9 in the NAIA, improved to 16-3 on the season and 2-1 in league play, while Lyon fell to 7-11 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

91±¬ÁÏÍø had their biggest lead of the game in the first half as they held a 31-22 lead over Lyon. However, for the last four minutes of the first half, Lyon outscored 91±¬ÁÏÍø 16-2 to take a 38-33 halftime lead. In the second half, Lyon kept in going as they scored the first five point of the second half to stretch the lead to 43-33, a 21-2 run. With 15 minutes left to play, Lyon had pushed the lead to 11 points at 49-38. 91±¬ÁÏÍø started to slowy creep back and they cut the lead to five points on two occasions, but couldn't seem to get any closer. Then, with just over seven minutes remaining and Lyon leading 61-54, 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Corey Burket made three pointers on two consecutive possession to cut the lead to just one at 61-60. Lyon had the answer as Jason Donaldson and Levi Taylor added a field goal and three pointer respectively to put the lead back at 66-60.

The Bulldogs again started their comeback with field goals by Kinley Sellers and Mack Bealim to cut the lead to jsut two at 66-64. Then, 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Burkett hit his third three pointer of the second half and fourth of the game to give 91±¬ÁÏÍø their first lead of the second half at 67-66. Lyon's Norris Weintz answered with a field goal to take back the lead for Lyon. 91±¬ÁÏÍø then called on 6-foot-10 junior center Ben Frederick as he scored the next five points for 91±¬ÁÏÍø, including a three pointer as the shot clock was winding down, to give 91±¬ÁÏÍø a 72-68 lead. After both teams swapped baskets, 91±¬ÁÏÍø led 74-70 with 25 seconds left to play. Lyon's Jonathan Donaldson took the ball for Lyon and made a deep three pointer with 10 seconds left to cut the 91±¬ÁÏÍø lead to 74-73. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Frederick was fouled with nine seconds left, however missed both free throws. 91±¬ÁÏÍø had a foul to give and stopped the clock with a foul on the floor with just three seconds left. Lyon's Donaldson hit the rim on a last second three pointer as time expired.

91±¬ÁÏÍø rebounded from poor shooting in the first half and early parts of the second half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø made just 2-of-11 three pointers in the first half, but sank 6-of-10 threes in the second half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Ben Frederick with 17 points. Kinley Sellers and Corey Burkett added 16 points each.

Lyon was led by Jonathan Donaldson and Brandon Thomas with 19 points. Norris Weintz added 16 points. Lyon made 7-of-15 three pointers (47 percent) for the game.

91±¬ÁÏÍø plays next at Cumberland on Saturday in Lebanon, Tennesse. Game time is 4:00 pm.
