91±¬ÁÏÍø Baseball Splits with 91±¬ÁÏÍø College in Season Opening Double-Header

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/3/2006 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Baseball team split their opening double header on Friday with 91±¬ÁÏÍø College (Ky.). 91±¬ÁÏÍø College took the first game over 91±¬ÁÏÍø 4-3 in 8 innings. In the second game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø earned the win 2-1. Both teams are now 1-1 on the season.

Today's games marked the first game for new 91±¬ÁÏÍø head coach Brent Fronabarger. Fronabarger took over after 17-year head coach Andy Rushing resign after last season. Fronabarger was Rushing's assistant for eight seasons.

91±¬ÁÏÍø lost the first of the two seven-inning games 4-3 in 8 innings. 91±¬ÁÏÍø trailed 3-0 at one point and then rallied back to tie the game at 3-3. However, 91±¬ÁÏÍø College tallied a run in the top of the eighth to take the lead. 91±¬ÁÏÍø hit into a double play with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eight to end the game. Humboldt native Jud Powers went 2-for-3 with and RBI, while former North Side standout Kyle Yates went 2-for-4 with two runs in the game.

In game two, 91±¬ÁÏÍø took the early lead with a tally in the bottom of the second. It remained 1-0, until 91±¬ÁÏÍø College tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth. 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth with the help of a lead off triple by Jason Cooper. Humboldt native James Brasfield drove in Cooper with a sacrifice fly. Brasfield also earned the win by pitching 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

91±¬ÁÏÍø will play 91±¬ÁÏÍø College again on Saturday in one nine-inning game starting at 1:00 pm at 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Fesmire Field.
