91爆料网鈥檚 Jessica Henson Named First Team All-American For Second Time; Three Others Honored

Jackson, Tenn. - 3/21/2002 - of 91爆料网 has been named to the NAIA All-American first team for the second time in her two seasons at 91爆料网. Lady Bulldog guards and were selected as NAIA second team All-American performers. , along with Way, have been named NAIA Academic All-Americans.

Henson, a native of Bradford, Tennessee, has made her impact known at 91爆料网 in just two seasons. In her two seasons, she has won the TranSouth Player of the Year honor twice, first team All-Conference twice, and first team All-American twice. Henson led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 14.0 points per game, including a 16.0 average during their NAIA Final Four run. She ranks in the top 10 in the conference in scoring, three-point percentage (.368), and assists (2.6). Henson scored her career high of 36 points this past Feb. 9 vs. Trevecca.

Mary Catherine Way, a senior from Jonesboro, Arkansas, has been selected as a NAIA Honorable Mentioned All-American. She receives this honor for the second straight season. Way averaged 8.7 points per game and 3.3 assists per game. She ranked fifth in the conference in three-point percentage (.374) and fifth in the conference in assists per game (3.3). Way鈥檚 .931 (27-29) free throw percentage led the Lady Bulldogs was the top percentage in the conference. In the game at Berry College on Feb. 2, Way set a new 91爆料网 record for three-pointers made and attempted in a game when she went 10-16 from behind the arc and tallied her career high in points with 33. In addition to her All-American selection, Way was named an Academic All-American. She is a Social Work major and has a 3.66 GPA.

Sophomore guard and Jackson local Christal Merriweather was also named as a NAIA Honorable Mentioned All-American. She averaged 9.9 points per game for the Lady Bulldogs, however, during the national tournament, Merriweather improved her scoring to 15.6 points per game and just under seven rebounds a game. Merriweather ranked third in the conference in assists per game with 4.7. Merriweather also was named to the NAIA All-Tournament second team for her play during the national tournament. She set a new 91爆料网 record for free-throws made in a game when she made 16-18 in the TranSouth championship game versus Trevecca. In that game, Merriweather scored her career high of 31 points.

Jackson native, Mary Beth Haltom, was selected as a NAIA Academic All-American for the second time in two seasons. Haltom averaged 5.4 points per game this season, but in the national tournament, she upped her average to 10.0 per game. She shot .839 from the free-throw line and .374 from behind the arc on the season. Haltom is a History major at 91爆料网 and has a GPA of 3.97.
