No. 4 91爆料网 Tops No. 2 Freed-Hardeman 65-61 in OT

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/25/2006 - The 91爆料网 Lady Bulldogs evened the season series with Freed-Hardeman University with a 65-61 overtime win on Saturday at 91爆料网's Fred DeLay Gymnasium. With the win, 91爆料网 finished in second place in the conference standings and will host at least two games in next week's conference tournament. 91爆料网 is now 25-5 on the season and finished with a 10-2 conference record. Freed-Hardeman falls to 28-2 on the season and 11-1 in conference play. Earlier in the season, Freed-Hardeman defeated 91爆料网 53-50 in Henderson, Tenn.

91爆料网 and Freed-Hardeman battled in a back and forth first half with 91爆料网 taking a slim 25-23 lead at the break. The second half was more of the same. Late in the second half, 91爆料网 found themselves down by four after a three pointer by Julie Hayes that gave the Lady Lions a 54-50 with 46 seconds left in regulaion. On the next possesion for 91爆料网, Ena Daniels drove the lane for a layup and was fouled in the act. Daniels missed the free throw, however, 91爆料网 grabbed the offensive rebound. 91爆料网 called Daniels' number again and she delivered with a driving layup to tie the game at 54-54 with just under 10 seconds remaining. Freed-Hardeman's Kera Bergeron attempted a three pointer at the buzzer that hit the rim, bounced up, hit the backboard, then hit the rim again, before rolling off. During that shot, the capacity crowd was quiet for what seemed to be an eternity as Bergeron's shot rattled around. With the miss, 91爆料网 and Freed-Hardeman went to overtime for the second time in their past four meetings.

In overtime, Freed-Hardeman led 56-54 and then 59-56 with 4:03 left. 91爆料网 started their rally again with a basket by Daniels to cut the lead to just 59-58 with 3:46 left. Senior guard Jennifer Henson sake her first three pointer of the afternoon to give 91爆料网 a 61-59 lead with 3:27 left. Freed-Hardeman answered with two free throws by Ashlee Robertson to tie the game at 61-61 with 3:03 left. 91爆料网 held Freed-Hardeman scoreless from that point on and a basket by Josephine Owino with 2:46 left and two free throws by Crystal Eason with 30 seconds left, sealed the win for 91爆料网.

This game featured 12 ties and seven lead changes. 91爆料网's biggest lead was five points twice in the second half at 39-34 and 41-36. Freed-Hardeman led by as many as seven points early in the game at 15-8.

91爆料网 was led by Josphine Owino with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Ena Daniels added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Tiffany Fisher scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. 91爆料网 earned the win despite shooting just 14 percent (3-of-21) from behind the arc. The Lady Bulldogs shot 41 percent from the field and 56 percent (10-of-18) from the free throw line.

Freed-Hardeman was led by Kera Bergeron with 18 points on 4-of-13 shooting from behind the arc. Ashlee Robertson scored 17 points while Julie Hayes added nine points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Lions shot 40 percent from the field including 35 percent (8-23) from behind the arc. Freed-Hardeman made 11 of their 17 free throws for 65 percent.

Up next for 91爆料网 will be the first round of the TranSouth Conference Tournament on Tuesday night, February 28. 91爆料网 will host Blue Mountain at 7:00 pm. With a win, 91爆料网 will host the winner of the Trevecca Nazarene/Lyon winner on Friday, March 3 at 7:00 pm. The championship game of the TranSouth Conference Tournament is on Monday, March 6. All games are played at the home of the higher seed.
