JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/27/2006 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Lady Bulldog softball team swept their first two home games of the 2006 season with 2-0 and 5-4 victories over Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.). 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 4-2 on the season, while Lindsey Wilson fell to 3-5 overall.
In the first game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Mary Kosco took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, before a grounder down the third base line bounced just out of the reach of 91±¬ÁÏÍø's third baseman. Kosco (2-1) finished the complete game while striking out nine hitters and allowing just the one hit. 91±¬ÁÏÍø recorded 12 hits in the game, however left eight runners on base. 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored their two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on back-to-back RBI hits by Amy Chatham and Michelle Albonetti. Chrissa Norton, Kylie Sullivan and Chatham each recorded two hits on the day.
In game two, Lindsey Wilson struck first with the help of back-to-back home runs in the top of the second to propel the Blue Raiders to an early 3-0 lead. 91±¬ÁÏÍø immediately rallied back with four runs in the bottom of the frame. With two outs, Amber Bryant laced a two RBI double into deep left center followed by an RBI triple by Albonetti, and an RBI single by Holly Haycraft to give 91±¬ÁÏÍø the lead. Lindsey Wilson answered back with a run in the top of the third. The score remained 4-4 until 91±¬ÁÏÍø, again with two outs, started a rally in the bottom of the seventh. Kristen Kolter singled to right center. Kosco entered the game as a pinch runner for Kolter. It proved to be a wise moved as the pitcher of record Jackie Cliff promptly doubled to deep left field to drive in Kosco for the winning run. Cliff recorded the game winning hit and also tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be the 91±¬ÁÏÍø Invitational on Friday and Saturday, March 3-4 at 91±¬ÁÏÍø.
