JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/3/2006 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø softball program earned two more wins on Friday at Fesmire Field to push their record to 6-2 on the season. 91±¬ÁÏÍø, ranked No. 15 in the preseason poll, defeated William Jewell College (Mo.) 5-0 and then topped Spring Arbor University (Mich.) 6-2 in the .
In the win over William Jewell, senior pitcher Mary Kosco (2-2) record 15 strikeouts in her seven innings of work. The 15 strikeouts was just one shy of the 91±¬ÁÏÍø record of 16 K's in a game held by a fellow Herrin, Illinois native, Lynde Cappagreco dating back to the 1998 season. 91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Chrissa Norton and Kristn Kolter with two hits each. Norton record three runs scored, while Kolter had two RBI.
The nightcap saw 91±¬ÁÏÍø jump out to a 5-0 lead with all the runs coming in the bottom of the second inning. 91±¬ÁÏÍø made that lead hold up for a 6-2 final. Jackie Cliff earned the win moving her record to 2-0. Amber Bryant led 91±¬ÁÏÍø with two hits in the game. Holly Haycraft and Candace Cross each record two RBI.
91±¬ÁÏÍø will play these same two teams on Saturday as the classic continues.
