JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/7/2006 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø softball team earned two more wins as they swept the Lambuth University Lady Eagles on Tuesday 6-1 and 1-0 at 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Fesmire Field. 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 9-3 on the season and have won seven of eight games. Lambuth dropped to 6-8 on the season.
In the first game, Lambuth jumped on top in the first inning with a run on a wild pitch by 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Mary Kosco (4-2). After that, Lambuth was held scoreless for the rest of the evening. 91±¬ÁÏÍø added one run each in the bottom of the second and third innings, and two runs each in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Kosco, for the second time in four days, recorded 15 strikeouts. Her 15 strikeouts was just one shy of the 91±¬ÁÏÍø record of 16 K's in a game. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Danielle Pope, in her first game back from an injury, hit her first home run of the season. Pope set a 91±¬ÁÏÍø record for home runs in a season last year with 14.
In game two, 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored a run in the bottom of the third inning. Amy Chatham led off with a double and then scored on a one out single by Candace Cross. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's Chrissa Norton (3-0) earned the win as she tossed seven innings of two-hit ball while recording seven strikeouts.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be the 91±¬ÁÏÍø Invitation this weekend March 10 - 11.
