NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 4/11/2006 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø men's golf team captured their first conference championship since the 1996 season when they claim the on Tuesday afternoon at the Hermitage Golf Club in Nashville. This marks the ninth conference title in the 91±¬ÁÏÍø men's golf great history.
After being in third place at the end of day one of play, 91±¬ÁÏÍø stormed back on Tuesday with a 298 score to edge Cumberland University by one shot for the championship. 91±¬ÁÏÍø's 613 team total was just above Cumberland's 614 total. Cumberland's 302 first day total was 13 shots ahead of 91±¬ÁÏÍø's 315 day one total.
91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by William Boyd of Hernando, Mississippi with a two-day total of 149, good for third place overall. A pair of Milan, Tennessee natives Cole Floyd (152) and Drew Cannon (155) finished 4th and 6th overall. Mickey Armstrong of Gallatin, Tennessee shot a 157 and Gary Glapa of Germantown, Wisconsin shot a 165 to complete 91±¬ÁÏÍø's individual scores.
Several post-season honors came home with 91±¬ÁÏÍø including Head Coach Don Morris being named the TranSouth Coach of the Year. Boyd, Cannon, and Floyd were each named to the TranSouth All-Conference team.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be the NAIA Region XI Tournament in London, Kentucky on April 23 - 24 at the London Country Club.
