JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/26/2006 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø men's soccer team and the seventh ranked Mid-Continent University (Ky.) Cougars played to a 1-1 tie in a double overtime match on 91±¬ÁÏÍø's campus Tuesday afternoon.
With the tie, 91±¬ÁÏÍø's record moves to 4-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the TranSouth, while Mid-Continent goes to 4-0-3 overall and 1-0-1 in league play.
Both teams played a scoreless first half. Then ten minutes into the second half, 91±¬ÁÏÍø senior Gareth Munro scored the first goal on an assist by Mark Forrest. 91±¬ÁÏÍø held on to the slim 1-0 lead and looked as if they might pull the upset. However, in the 79th minute, Antonio Suarez of Mid-Continent tied the game on a rebound following a deflected save by 91±¬ÁÏÍø goalie Chris Lean.
The two teams continued to battle through both overtimes with each team have several scoring opportunities come up short.
91±¬ÁÏÍø plays next on Friday, September 29 when they host their second straight NAIA Top 10 team when No. 2 Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) comes to town. Last season, Lindsey Wilson defeated 91±¬ÁÏÍø 3-1 in Kentucky in a match to decide the region title and a national tournament birth. Lindsey Wilson went on to win the 2005 NAIA National Title.
