JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/16/2006 - The No. 1 ranked 91±¬ÁÏÍø Lady Bulldogs opened the 13th Annual Rotary Classic with a 79-51 win over No. 18 Georgetown College (Ky.). With the win, 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 4-0 on the season while Georgetown fell to 4-1.
Despite being two big names in the NAIA women's basketball ranks, tonight's game marked the first time that 91±¬ÁÏÍø and Georgetown had met. 91±¬ÁÏÍø jumped out to a quick lead in the first half thanks to so great shooting. 91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 52-percent from the field, inlcuding 6-of-13 (46-percent) from behind the arc in the first half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø led 33-9 midway through the first half before Georgetown attempted to pull back into the game with a 9-0 run. That run cut the 91±¬ÁÏÍø lead to 33-18, however, the Lady Bulldogs pushed the lead back to over 20 points before settling for a 42-24 halftime lead. The second half saw 91±¬ÁÏÍø outscore the Tigers 37-27 to stretch the final to 79-51.
Six of the eight Lady Bulldogs scored in double figures. Latorya Fuller, who missed the last two games with an illness, scored 14 points along with Crystal Eason to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Eason was 4-of-6 from behind the arc while Fuller made 2-of-4 three pointers. Josephine Owino added 12 points, Kaitlin Dudley scored 11 points, while Jessica Graves and Natanya Smith scored 10 points each.
Georgetown was led by Kim Ingle with 14 points, which put her over the 1,000 career points mark. Ashley Bell and Megan Gray added 12 points each for Georgetown.
Up next in the Rotary Classic for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a battle with No. 16 Oklahoma Baptist University on Friday at 7:00 pm.
