JACKSON, Tenn. - 12/9/2006 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs won their fifth game in a row with a 74-61 win over No. 13 Oklahoma Baptist University. With the win, 91±¬ÁÏÍø improved to 7-2, while Oklahoma Baptist fell to 6-3 on the season.
This game marked the second win this season over the Bison as 91±¬ÁÏÍø topped Oklahoma Baptist 71-67 in a game played in Oklahoma back on November 18.
In the first half, turnovers were a common occurrence as Oklahoma Baptist committed 17 first half miscues, while 91±¬ÁÏÍø turned the ball over 11 times. However, after a very closely played first 15 minutes of the game, 91±¬ÁÏÍø was able to pull out to an 11 point lead, 35-24, at the half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø used that momentum to jump out to a 21 point lead with a 17-7 run to start the second half. The Bison of Oklahoma Baptist then rallied back with a 14-6 run to get within 13 points. 91±¬ÁÏÍø matched the Bison turnover troubles from the first half as the Bulldogs committed 17 turnovers in the final 20 minutes to end the game with 28 turnovers. Oklahoma Baptist tallied 25 turnovers in the game. In the end, 91±¬ÁÏÍø was able to hold off a very tough Bison team and maintain at least a 13 point cushion for the remainder of the game.
91±¬ÁÏÍø shot 51-percent from the field including 46-percent (6-13) from behind the arc. 91±¬ÁÏÍø also made 70-percent of their free throws (14-20) in the game, including 85-percent in the second half. 91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Mack Bealim with a game-high 19 points and nine rebounds. Tony Brown scored 17 points, Pierry Valmera added 12 points in just 11 minutes of play, and Ben Frederick scored 11 points.
Oklahoma Baptist shot 34-percent from the field including 56-percent (5-9) from behind the arc. The Bison made 72-percent of their free throws (18-25) in the game. The Bison were led by Justin Benson with 15 points, followed by 13 points each from Tre Griffin and Julius Hurd.
91±¬ÁÏÍø plays one more game in December before taking entering the Christmas break. The Bulldogs will travel to Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) on December 18 for a 7:00 pm contest. The first game for both the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs after the break will be a TranSouth Conference game at Cumberland University (Tenn.) on January 4.
