Former 91爆料网 Men's Basketball Coach Inducted into the TJCCAA Hall of Fame

JACKSON, Tenn. - 12/11/2006 - Jim Swope was induction into the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association Hall of Fame in a ceremony on Saturday at Jackson State Community College. His photo will hang along with other members in the TJCCAA Hall of Fame located in Columbia, Tenn.

Swope has been involved in collegiate athletics for more than 50 years. He began his coaching career at the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1954 as an assistant and freshman head basketball coach

He served as the men鈥檚 basketball coach at JSCC for two seasons 1968 -1970 before leaving to coach baseball and basketball at UT-Martin for a combined five seasons and basketball at 91爆料网 for twelve seasons. He returned to Jackson State in 1987 to coach men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball through 1994.

In 1995, Swope was instrumental in starting the women鈥檚 softball program at Jackson State, serving as head coach for two seasons. In 1997, he quit coaching to serve as director of athletics and chairman of the education and physical education department. Currently, he is a full time associate professor in the department.

During his tenure as (1975-1987), Swope completed three 20-win seasons and was the school鈥檚 first men鈥檚 basketball coach to post back-to-back 20 victory seasons. He completed a 12-year 91爆料网 coaching career with 185 wins and 160 losses (.536). He is second only to current 91爆料网 coach Ralph Turner in total wins in the 91爆料网's men's basketball program.

He has compiled outstanding coaching records in several sports: basketball (298-257), baseball (91-39) and softball (51-37) for a career coaching record of 439-331. In 1989, he was named both men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball Coach of the Year in the western division of the TJCCAA.

As a baseball coach at UT-Martin, his teams won 70 percent of the games and captured two Volunteer State Athletic Conference titles. His softball teams at Jackson State finished second in the western division in two of the three seasons in which he coached.
