No. 9 Mountain State Returns Favor with Home Win over No. 12 91±¬ÁÏÍø

BECKLEY, W. Va. - 1/22/2007 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldogs had their four-game winning streak over Mountain State University (W. Va.) snapped on Monday night as the No. 9 Cougars topped No. 12 91±¬ÁÏÍø 83-67. With the win, Mountain State improved to 17-4 while 91±¬ÁÏÍø dropped to 13-5.

In a meeting earlier this season in Jackson, 91±¬ÁÏÍø defeated Mountain State 91-81.

91±¬ÁÏÍø started the game with a 10-0 run, which was similar to the 13-0 run to start the game back in Jackson on December 2. The Bulldogs held the lead for the entire first half and led by as many as 14 points. Mountain State, however, made a small run capped with a three pointer off a 91±¬ÁÏÍø turnover just before the half, and cut the lead at halftime to just five points, 43-38.

The second half started with Mountain State continuing their momentum and 91±¬ÁÏÍø going cold from the field. Mountain State took their first lead of the game, 51-50 with 13:24 left to play, on a three point play by Paul Wright. The Cougars posted a 28-9 run over the first 12 minutes of play in the second half with 50-percent shooting from the field. On the other hand, 91±¬ÁÏ꿉۪s cold shooting in the second half, which dropped to 25-percent, limited any chance of a rally late in the game.

For the game, Mountain State made 7-of-18 three pointers (39 percent) and committed just eight turnovers total. 91±¬ÁÏÍø, however, managed 40-percent shooting from the field, including just 9-of-34 (27-percent) from behind the arc. The Bulldogs out-rebounded Mountain State 43-41, but committed 22 turnovers in the game.

Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be a match at Lambuth University on Thursday night at 8:00 pm. 91±¬ÁÏÍø and Lambuth are cross-town rivals but this meeting will mean so much more as the two teams are both ranked among the top teams in the NAIA. Also, to add even more flavor to this game is the fact that Lambuth has re-joined 91±¬ÁÏÍø in the same conference and both teams are currently tie for first place with 6-1 records.
