JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/31/2007 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Bulldog baseball team rallied in the rubber game of the series to earn a 6-4 win over Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon. The RedHawks of Martin Methodist took the first game of the day 10-4, after 91±¬ÁÏÍø won the Friday night contest 7-3. 91±¬ÁÏÍø is now 21-11 on the season and 7-8 in the TranSouth. Martin Methodist dropped to 21-13 overall and 6-9 in league play.
Late in second game of the day, 91±¬ÁÏÍø trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the sixth as the rain had started to fall. 91±¬ÁÏÍø rallied for three runs, two of which were unearned, to take a 6-4 lead. Joe Robinson scored on a single by Joel Benchoff to tie the game. 91±¬ÁÏÍø this loaded the bases with two outs and a sharp ground ball hit by Judson Powers rolled between the first baseman's legs to allow two runs to score.
After a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh, 91±¬ÁÏÍø's James Brasfield, retired the next three hitters to complete his complete game win. Brasfield, a native of Humboldt, moved to 4-1 on the season as he posted his second straight complete game win, both coming in TranSouth games. The junior tossed seven innings, allowing four runs, three earned runs, eight hits, with four strikeouts.
Shaun Cozart and Joel Benchoff led 91±¬ÁÏÍø with two hits each while four different players produced one RBI each.
Shane Hobbs took the hard-luck loss for the RedHawks dropping his record to 1-1 on the year. He allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits in 5.2 innings pitched.
The first game of the day saw 91±¬ÁÏÍø score first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. The game was still close as Martin Methodist led 4-3 entering the top of the fifth inning. However, six RedHawk runs put the game away at 10-3. 91±¬ÁÏÍø added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Martin Methodist rolled to a 10-4 win.
Bryan Wagner (1-3) took the loss for 91±¬ÁÏÍø allowing four runs in 3.1 innings. Josh Holman allowed six runs in his 1.1 innings of relief. Martin Methodist's Ryan Inlow (2-3) earned the win, allowing just four runs and 10 hits in his 6.2 innings. Hunter Norton struck out the only batter he faced in relief for the RedHawks.
91±¬ÁÏÍø's Josiah Enyart led with three hits in the game. Judson Powers and Shaun Cozart added two hits each.
Martin Methodist freshman Darin Holt was the player of the day for the RedHawks as he was 4-for-4 with four RBI in the first game and 3-for-4 in the second game.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be four road games next week. First the Bulldogs travel to Memphis to face NCAA Div. II opponent Christian Brothers University. 91±¬ÁÏÍø then travels to Lebanon, Tennessee to play defending conference champion and NAIA National Runner-Up Cumberland University for a three-game set on Friday and Saturday.
