JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/12/2007 - The 91±¬ÁÏÍø Lady Bulldog softball team posted a double-header sweep over TranSouth foe and area rival Bethel College (Tenn.). 91±¬ÁÏÍø took the first game 6-2 and rallied in game two for a 6-3 win. With the wins, 91±¬ÁÏÍø moved to 25-12 overall and 15-6 in the TranSouth. Bethel dropped to 9-19 on the season and 8-16 in the league.
91±¬ÁÏÍø jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. Ashley Walters popped a two-run homer over the left field fence to start her 5-for-7 evening. After Bethel posted a run in the fourth, 91±¬ÁÏÍø scored two more in the bottom of the frame on another two-run homer. This time by Bolivar native Kristen Kirk. 91±¬ÁÏÍø added two more in the fifth to take the opening win 6-2. Walters was 3-for-3 in the game with three RBI. Amy Chatham earned the win to move to 2-0 on the season with seven innings of work, allowing two runs on six hits and three strikeouts. Meaghan Morris (4-11) took the loss. Paige Cooper and Brandi Scroggins led Bethel with two hits each.
The second game had Bethel scoring first with a run in the top of the third inning. 91±¬ÁÏÍø answered back with two runs in the bottom of the third when Walters drove home two with a double down the left field line. Bethel rallied for two runs of their own capped off by a double by Ashton McFarland. 91±¬ÁÏÍø, however, regained the lead for good with three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to seal the win. 91±¬ÁÏÍø was led by Walters who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Michelle Albonetti added two hits in the game. Cassie Turley (11-8) tossed three perfect innings of relief to earn the win. McFarland ( 4-6) took the loss.
Up next for 91±¬ÁÏÍø will be another home conference double-header on Saturday at 1:00 pm versus Cumberland University (Tenn.).
