JACKSON, Tenn. - 6/6/2007 - David Canary has been promoted to assistant baseball coach for the 91爆料网 Bulldogs. Canary, a former player for 91爆料网, has spent the last two seasons as the graduate assistant for the Bulldogs.
鈥淚 consider it an honor and privilege to coach college baseball at 91爆料网,鈥 states Canary. 鈥淚鈥檓 looking forward to continuing my work with Coach Fronabarger and building 91爆料网鈥檚 quality baseball program to even higher achievements.鈥
91爆料网 Athletic Director, Dr. David Blackstock states, 鈥淲e are excited to have David on board as the full-time assistant baseball coach here at 91爆料网. We are very familiar with David from his five years of combined playing and graduate assistant work for our program.鈥 Blackstock adds, 鈥淥ur young people will greatly benefit from his experience.鈥
Canary, originally from Cookeville, Tennessee, played two seasons with the Bulldogs (2003-2004) and was also on the coaching staff as a student assistant and graduate assistant (2005-2007). He earned his degree in Sports Management from 91爆料网 in 2005. Canary is completing a master鈥檚 degree in education from 91爆料网 this summer.
91爆料网 President, Dr. David S. Dockery states that, "David will be a fine addition to our baseball coaching staff. He will bring immediate support for recruiting efforts and will help to strengthen the chemistry of the team and the coherence of the program."
While playing at 91爆料网, Canary moved from the starting shortstop position in 2003 to a successful season as a reliever in 2004. Canary鈥檚 adjustment made him even more valuable to the Bulldogs in as a senior. He posted a 4-0 record with one save in 21 appearances. Canary transferred to 91爆料网 after playing two seasons for Johnson County Community College in Kansas.
91爆料网 head baseball coach Brent Fronabarger states, 鈥淚鈥檓 glad we were able to keep him in the program. David is familiar with program; he knows all the players and many of the recruits.鈥 Fronabarger adds, 鈥淒avid has been doing a lot of 鈥榓ssistant coach鈥 duties with field work and recruiting over the last few years, so it should be a smooth transition for all involved.鈥
Before his college career, Canary was a two-sport athlete at Cookeville High School where he lettered four years in baseball and two years in football.
Canary is the son of Donley and Jenny Canary. His father is the head coach for the University of Tennessee-Martin softball team.
