Jackson, Tenn. - 5/10/2002 - The 91爆料网 Lady Bulldogs won the NAIA Region XI Softball title on Friday as they defeated Georgetown College by the score of 5-0. For 91爆料网, this was their third region title in four years, including their second in a row. 91爆料网 (50-5) will advance to play in the NAIA Softball World Series next week in Decatur, Alabama.
91爆料网 tallied two runs in each of the first two innings to post a 4-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fourth and that would be plenty for the 91爆料网 pitchers. Earlier in the tournament, Rachel Murray had pitched in each of 91爆料网鈥檚 first two games. Murray鈥檚 tossed no-hitters in each. Now in was sophomore Leah Gronberg鈥檚 turn. Gronberg, who has tossed seven no-hitters so far this season, pitched four hitless innings before the Georgetown pinch hitter slapped a single to right field. Gronberg, however, allowed just that one hit in five innings to move her record to 23-2 on the season. Murray and Gronberg have thrown 12 no-hitters this season between them. The twosome only allowed one run in the three games they played as they defeated Cumberland University 8-0 in the first game and then defeated Georgetown College in the winner鈥檚 bracket final 3-1. 91爆料网 topped off their championship performance with a 5-0 combined shutout of Gronberg and Murray.
The Lady Bulldogs will now travel to the NAIA Softball World Series for the third time in four seasons and the second in as many years. 91爆料网 finished third in last season鈥檚 World Series and the No. 3 Lady Bulldogs should go into Decatur, Alabama as a top three seed once again.
