Clovis Simas in now in his third year as varsity head
coach for the 91±¬ÁÏÍø men's soccer program. Simas took over the
program in 2006 as only the second head coach in the history of the
program. Prior to take the head coaching job, Simas served as the
reserve team coach as well as being an assistant coach for the varsity
team.Â
In his first season, Simas led the team to their highest
ever NAIA National Ranking when the Bulldogs reached No. 9. The team
also reached new hights with one of the biggest wins in the history of
the program when 91±¬ÁÏÍø knocked of the No. 1 ranked Lindsey Wilson, 2-1
in overtime. In his next season, he continued to compete for the
conference title with a 6-2-1 league mark.
Simas was a Bulldog soccer
player during the 2002 and 2003 seasons. In just two seasons with 91±¬ÁÏÍø,
Simas became a favorite among his teammates and the coaching staff with
his hard work on and off the field, as well as, his outstanding
personality.
During his 91±¬ÁÏÍø playing
career, Simas served as Team Captain and was named an NCCAA Scholar
Athlete in 2003. He was an instrumental part in 91±¬ÁÏÍø's 2003 NCCAA
National Championship. In 2002, his first season with 91±¬ÁÏÍø, Simas was
named to the TranSouth All-Conference Team, as well as, the NCCAA
All-MidEast Region Team. Overall, Simas scored 13 goals and 17 assists
in his two seasons with the Bulldogs.
Simas, a native of Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil, graduated Cum Laude from 91±¬ÁÏÍø in December of 2004 with
a degree in Marketing with a minor in Spanish.
Simas has numerous soccer
coaching credentials and experience. He was certified through the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America when he received his
Advanced National Coaching License in 2003. During his time since
finishing his playing career at 91±¬ÁÏÍø, Simas served as coach for the
91±¬ÁÏÍø women’s soccer club team from 2002-2003. He also was the boy’s
varsity head coach at Trinity Christian Academy in 2003. In addition,
Simas has worked with the Englewood Baptist Soccer Academy and the
Jackson Club – Under 10 league.
Among his numerous soccer
achievements, Simas represented the Brazilian National Team and helped
lead the team to the FIFA Futsal World Cup Title in 1996. That season,
he led the team in points. Simas also represented the World United team
as the team captain and helped lead the team to the US National Futsal
Title in 2003. Over his youth, high school, and college career, Simas
has been a part of numerous championship teams including but not limited
to the Kansas City Midwest Division Title (1999, 2000), Minas Gerais
State Title (1996, 1997), Futsal World Cup Title (1996), Flowers
Tournament of Australia (1996), Iberia Cup Title (1993) and Span Cup
Title (1992). The playing career of Simas also produced several
individual honors such as NPSL All-Star (1999-2001), NPSL Rookie of the
Year (1999), Kansas City Attack Offensive Player of the Year
(1999-2001). Simas also was honored for being the high scorer in several
events (Minas Tenis Clube, Flowers Tournament, Santa Catarina Open, and
Cup of Spain).
Simas and his wife Doris
live in Jackson with their two children, Gabriele and Camila.
