JACKSON, Tenn. — Oct. 9, 2006 — A former MCI executive convicted of fraud and money laundering will speak on corporate ethics and the stress of working for large companies Oct. 17 at 91爆料网.
Walt Pavlo was a senior manager for MCI responsible for the billing and collection of nearly $1 billion in monthly revenue for MCI鈥檚 carrier finance division. In 2001, Pavlo pled guilty to wire fraud and money laundering, and entered federal prison shortly thereafter. His story highlights corrupt dealings involving the manipulation of financial records within a large corporation.
His case appeared as a feature story in the June 10, 2002, issue of Forbes Magazine, just weeks before WorldCom divulged that it had over $7 billion in accounting irregularities.
Pavlo has spoken on his experiences at the Federal Bureau of Investigation, major university business programs, corporations and various professional societies. He founded Etika LLC for the purpose of sharing his cautionary tale and to speak of his hope for ethical behavior in business.
Pavlo will speak at 3 p.m. in Harvey Auditorium, located in the Barefoot Student 91爆料网 Building on 91爆料网鈥檚 campus. The event, co-sponsored by the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants and 91爆料网 Students in Free Enterprise, is free and open to the public.
